Professional Affiliates

Kalachnik is a regular participant in activities of the National Association of Bond Lawyers through speaking engagements and contributions to the NABL education committee. From 2008 to 2011, Kalachnik served on NABL’s Functions and Professional Responsibility subcommittee, which completed a revision of the third edition of The Function and Professional Responsibilities of Bond Counsel. From 2009 to 2011, Kalachnik was the chair of the NABL Associate Network. Kalachnik has served as the Vice Chair of NABL’s Essentials conference, on the steering committee for NABL’s Workshop and as a panel chair for NABL’s Institute.

Tyler is active in the community as former vice chair of the board of Indiana’s Balance of State, Continuum of Care and a member of the Brebeuf Jesuit Alumni Board.  He is the former chair of the board of directors and member of the Director’s Council of Joy’s House, a charitable organization serving the senior community.

In 2009, Tyler was named an Up and Coming Lawyer by The Indiana Lawyer and was named a “Rising Star” from 2013-2021 by Indiana Super Lawyers. Tyler is rated “AV – Preeminent” by his peers through the Martindale-Hubbell review process and in 2019 was named a “Best Lawyer in America” in Public Finance by U.S. News & World Report.  Tyler was also recognized in 2020 as a “Rising Star” by The Bond Buyer.

Biography

Tyler Kalachnik is a partner in and vice chair of the Firm’s Public Finance Group. Tyler has served as bond counsel, underwriter’s counsel, disclosure counsel and borrower’s counsel for both long-term and short-term financings involving the pledge of revenues, taxes or a combination thereof. Tyler also has experience in transactions involving letters of credit, standby bond purchase agreements, interest rate and commodity swaps.

Tyler is a 1999 graduate of Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School. In 2003, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in history with a minor in business from Indiana University Bloomington. In 2006, he earned his juris doctorate, summa cum laude, from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law.

While in law school, Kalachnik was selected and served as a contracts tutor in the Dean’s Tutorial Society, an articles editor for the Indiana Law Review, and was a member of the Committee on Diversity Initiative.

Representative Experience

Representative financings include single and multi-family housing projects, airports, municipal gas utilities, prepaid natural gas transactions, municipal water utilities, Indiana’s State Revolving Fund Program, solid waste disposal facilities, 501(c)(3) organizations  and temporary loan warrants for political subdivisions and school corporations. Tyler also works in the Municipal Finance Group’s rebate calculation practice.
